About UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing

One of China’s leading contemporary art institutions, UCCA Center for Contemporary Art is guided by the mission of “bringing great art to more people.” Its main venue is located in the heart of Beijing’s iconic 798 Art District, housed in former industrial buildings originally designed in the 1950s by East German architects from the Dessau Design Institute (the postwar continuation of the Bauhaus).

In 2007, the site was comprehensively renovated by Jean-Michel Wilmotte and Ma Qingyun; in 2019, OMA further upgraded the space, preserving its industrial character while transforming it into a 10,000-square-meter platform for exhibitions, research, and public programs. Since its founding in 2007, UCCA has presented over 200 exhibitions and welcomed more than ten million visitors, serving as an important bridge between Chinese contemporary art and the global art community.
