EVE Audio: An Immersive Multi-Channel Sound Choice Trusted by the Artist
Beijing, December 2025 — German professional monitoring brand EVE Audio served as the audio technology partner for “Yang Fudong: Fragrant River,” a major solo exhibition by the artist Yang Fudong, presented at UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing from November 22, 2025 to May 5, 2026. As one of the most comprehensive institutional exhibitions of Yang Fudong’s work in Beijing to date, the show employs EVE Audio professional studio monitors across 14 gallery spaces to realize the artist’s multi-channel sound concept.
To support the spatial narrative and emotional depth of Fragrant River, Yang Fudong selected EVE Audio’s professional monitoring system, citing the brand’s clarity, precise spatial imaging, and tonal depth in complex multi-channel environments. Across the exhibition’s 14 gallery rooms, EVE Audio equipment forms a carefully calibrated audio ecosystem, including:
42 newly released EXO Series monitors, comprising EXO25 (5-inch) and EXO27 (6.5-inch) models. As 2026 TEC Awards nominees, the EXO Series features EVE’s Precision AirMotion Transformer (AMT) tweeter and advanced GDC waveguide technology, offering a wide listening area, clean high frequencies, and controlled low end. Integrated Ethernet connectivity and EVE Control software enable precise room adaptation to maintain consistency across differing acoustic conditions.
8 SC3010 monitors, known for strong resolution, enhancing clarity among layered sound elements and preventing masking, thereby preserving subtle sonic details aligned with the filmic narrative.
18 TS108 subwoofers and 3 TS112 subwoofers, adding a physical dimension to the experience. Low-frequency energy anchors the audience within the space—whether reproducing environmental sounds of rural life or conveying the tension of more surreal moments in Xianghe.
This configuration minimizes dependence on a single “sweet spot”: from multiple positions, sound remains cohesive and enveloping, softening the boundary between foreground and background and reinforcing the exhibition’s non-linear structure. Yang Fudong expressed a high level of satisfaction with the audio results across the galleries, noting that the EVE Audio system translated his artistic vision into an immersive, full-spectrum sensory experience.

Fragrant River: A Decades-Long Epic of Image and Sound
The exhibition’s central work, Fragrant River (2016–2025), is a 15-channel black-and-white moving-image and sound installation developed over more than 25 years. Named after the artist’s hometown of Fragrant River in Hebei Province, the title extends beyond a specific place to become a metaphor for personal memory, collective history, and the passage of time.
In 2016, Yang Fudong and his team filmed for 47 days in rural and urban areas of Fragrant River; post-production was completed in autumn 2025. Structured around the everyday preparations of a young mother for the Lunar New Year, the work interweaves moments of birth, aging, illness, and death, sketching a portrait of northern Chinese village life that is at once familiar and estranged.
The 15 screens are distributed across nine interconnected, nested spaces, forming a “labyrinth of memory” in which visitors’ free movement becomes part of the work’s narrative. Fragrant River is both a reflective return to themes of growth and homesickness and a sustained contemplation of time itself; walking through the installation becomes a way for time to unfold, drawing viewers into the narrative.

Giovanni De Feo on Art, Technology, and “Presence”
Commenting on the project, Giovanni De Feo, Marketing at EVE Audio, noted that the EXO Series’ frequency response and immersive capabilities helped establish a strong sense of “presence” within UCCA’s spaces. “Visitors can move freely and follow the exhibition’s emotional threads without feeling a disconnect between image and sound,” he said. “The strength of the EXO Series lies in the fact that sound here is not only heard—it can be experienced from every angle.”
As contemporary art institutions increasingly engage with immersive and time-based media, Yang Fudong: Fragrant River demonstrates how artistic intent and technical precision can work in concert. EVE Audio’s role in the exhibition underscores its position as a trusted partner for artists and institutions, supporting new approaches to sensory storytelling.

About UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing
One of China’s leading contemporary art institutions, UCCA Center for Contemporary Art is guided by the mission of “bringing great art to more people.” Its main venue is located in the heart of Beijing’s iconic 798 Art District, housed in former industrial buildings originally designed in the 1950s by East German architects from the Dessau Design Institute (the postwar continuation of the Bauhaus).
In 2007, the site was comprehensively renovated by Jean-Michel Wilmotte and Ma Qingyun; in 2019, OMA further upgraded the space, preserving its industrial character while transforming it into a 10,000-square-meter platform for exhibitions, research, and public programs. Since its founding in 2007, UCCA has presented over 200 exhibitions and welcomed more than ten million visitors, serving as an important bridge between Chinese contemporary art and the global art community.
