Sepura is a global leader in the design, manufacture and supply of digital radio products, systems and applications developed specifically for business and mission critical communications. The company’s communication solutions enable public safety organisations and users in commercial sectors – including transport, utilities, oil and gas, manufacturing, mining, hospitality and construction – to address the communications challenges they face on a daily basis.
At a brand new location at the Cambridge Research Park, a dedicated, state-of-the-art anechoic test chamber has been purpose-built to offer precise calibration and testing of these communication systems with an EVE Audio monitor solution at the heart of the facility.

Four EVE Audio SC208 8" two-way speakers are positioned in each corner of the chamber, along with an EVE TS112 12" active subwoofer, allowing a 360° sound field to be generated within the room. Products are tested in typical usage positions, relative to the Brüel & Kjær head and torso simulator. Powerful soundscapes are fed into the EVE system, allowing the team to carefully measure the performance of noise cancellation algorithms – for example, via the test equipment. The chamber itself is treated with ultra-high absorption panels on the walls and ceiling, whilst the floor has been left as a reflective surface to simulate a real world scenario as, in most cases, hard surfaces would be present beneath a typical user. The cutoff of the room has been designed at 100Hz with the SC208s providing full-range, independent signals fed from four analogue channels through a Soundcraft SI expression mixer, located in the adjoining laboratory. A further, independent channel feeds the subwoofer, which has been adjusted to 120Hz low pass cutoff via the dedicated onboard DSP settings.
A typical test procedure may involve playback of an idling jet engine or a busy urban city center soundscape at very high volume into the chamber, from which the researchers can assess 'receive performance' and investigate the noise cancellation properties of a particular product. The EVEs are driven at full volume – necessary to allow the products to be tested within the loudest of noisy environments.

Senior Acoustic Engineer, Edmund Elsey, heads up the Sepura test facility and was a driving force in the decision to install the EVE system. Edmund commented, “We were looking for active speakers that had as flat a frequency response as possible, and that would produce high SPL. EVE were able to offer accurate frequency plots via their website, which was very helpful when deciding on a system. After an initial listening test between other brands, we decided to go with the EVE systems due to their accurate representation and cost-effective price point."

The SC208 extends the bass frequency response down to 36 Hz using a custom-made 8" SilverCone woofer, driven by a sophisticated low-distortion copper cap magnet system with a 1.5" voice coil. The result is a very tight and dynamic bass, along with the usual greater linear excursion provided in every other EVE audio model. The SC208 employs a PWM amplifier, with protection limiting, and is able to deliver a short-term output power of 150W, for a maximum output level of 112 dB (SPL @ 1m).

The TS112 – ThunderStorm subwoofer has detailed controls, such as switchable satellite filters (full range and 80Hz), phase switch controls (0°, 180°) and variable subwoofer filter frequencies (60 ... 140Hz) allowing the user to tailor and adjust the ThunderStorm to specific room specifications.
The TS112 is EVE Audio's largest, "no-compromise" subwoofer. The highly efficient PWM amp is capable of 400W of short term output power. The powerful amp, coupled with a large proprietary 12" woofer guarantees a clean frequency response down to 24Hz and up to 300Hz, for a maximum output power of 112 dB (SPL @ 1m).
